A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. By the skillful placing of bets on the table, a player can vary the amount of risk he is taking. Still others say it originated in an old Chinese game whose object was to arrange 37 statuettes of animals in a "magic square" of 666 (but they fail to describe the method of play) One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. The numbers alternate between black and red. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. now, let's see how to play roulette. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. Here are thedifferent bets you can make. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. There's an old saying,"The wheel has no memory. On an American wheel,there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. One to six players are seated at the roulette table. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. The same 2 to 1 odds are given for selecting any of the numbers in the three vertical columns of 12 numbers, located on one end of the betting surface For outside bets, the dealer will lay your winning chips alongside your original bet. All inside bets are paid by the dealer, directly to you. The perfectly balanced roulette wheel consists of 38 identical slots, individually numbered from 0, 00, 1 through 36. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1. All in all, that edge is comparable to the "rake" in poker, and in some bets on the craps table, in baccarat and other games including sports betting.
