American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. Street Bet - A bet that covers a row of three numbers on the table. Pays 11:1. Six Number Bet - Covers two rows of three numbers each. The chip is placed on the outside line of the two rowscovered. Pays 5:1. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. Roulette is said by some to have been started or invented way back in 1655 by the French scientist Blaise Pascal, during his monastic retreat, and first played in a makeshift casino in Paris. Still others say it originated in an old Chinese game whose object was to arrange 37 statuettes of animals in a "magic square" of 666 (but they fail to describe the method of play) There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. Bets placed on the layout after this announcement are not valid and must be returned to the player(s) The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. now, let's see how to play roulette. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots. That number is the declared winner for that game. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36.
