Roulette Game Casinos
A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. Straight Up Bet - A chip is placed on one of the numbers. Pays 35:1. Split Bet - The chip is placed on the line separating two adjacent numbers. Pays 17:1. Street Bet - A bet that covers a row of three numbers on the table. Pays 11:1. Roulette is said by some to have been started or invented way back in 1655 by the French scientist Blaise Pascal, during his monastic retreat, and first played in a makeshift casino in Paris. Still others say it originated in an old Chinese game whose object was to arrange 37 statuettes of animals in a "magic square" of 666 (but they fail to describe the method of play) The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. The players begin by making their bets, placing chips on the spaces of the layout in the manner permitted by the applicable rules for the area/state/country etc. The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The numbers alternate between black and red. A dealer (known as a croupier) spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. We've added blue circled letters to the diagram to point outhow to make the not-so-obvious bets (the sets of 2-6 numbers) you will likely lose money faster the morebets you make, because you're betting more. In most games players can continuemaking bets even while the ball is still spinning. New players often have to betold this repeatedly the first time they play because they kept forgetting andbecause they're excited about collecting their winnings. That way, you're not locked inand you always have the ability to change your mind. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. Inside bets canusually be as small a you like, as long as the total of all your inside bets isthe table minimum. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. There's an old saying,"The wheel has no memory. Now let's sayyou've been playing Roulette for a few hours, betting on Red every time, andyou've been keeping track of what numbers have hit. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. If you play Roulette, the most important thing is to find a casino thatoffers the European wheel (which is called "Single 0" Roulette) European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. Additional combinations in this "inside" betting area are: one chip on a six number bet (pays 5 to 1); one chip on any four connecting numbers (pays 8 to 1); one chip on any connecting group of three numbers (11-1); one chip place between two connecting numbers (17-to-1) The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. Red or black pays even odds. You will get 2-to-1 odds if you select the winning number within the first, second or third dozen numbers. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. All inside bets are paid by the dealer, directly to you. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36.
