A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. Some European casinos have only a “0”. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. The players begin by making their bets, placing chips on the spaces of the layout in the manner permitted by the applicable rules for the area/state/country etc. The dealer spins the wheel in a counterclockwise direction then flips the ball on the bowl's back track so that it travels clockwise. A dealer (known as a croupier) spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. You should always calculate your expectedloss and how long you can play on a given bankroll before playing any game, butwith roulette it's especially important. now, let's see how to play roulette. Making a bet is easy - you just place your chip(s) on the number(s), color, orsets you want to bet on. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. When the ball falls into a slot, the dealer will announce thenumber and the color, and place a marker on the layout where the winning numberis. That way iftwo players bet on the same number (or set of numbers), then the dealer knowswho to pay, and arguments can't arise over who bet what. There's no advantage tolimiting yourself to inside or outside. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. The wheel has no memory. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. Casino roulette uses the same basic rules and procedures in all casinos throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in the Caribbean and other island gaming resorts on the North American continent. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. The perfectly balanced roulette wheel consists of 38 identical slots, individually numbered from 0, 00, 1 through 36. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%.
