A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. Some European casinos have only a “0”. Six Number Bet - Covers two rows of three numbers each. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. He does this as the ball slows down and is about to drop off the back track. The numbers alternate between black and red. A dealer (known as a croupier) spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) The Europeanwheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38(no 00) On even money bets when 0 comes up, instead of losing rightaway, your bet is "imprisoned" and rides again for the next spin. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. It is important to note that these roulette chips must be cashed in at the table. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. You will get 2-to-1 odds if you select the winning number within the first, second or third dozen numbers. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. All in all, that edge is comparable to the "rake" in poker, and in some bets on the craps table, in baccarat and other games including sports betting. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%. The player has a 1 in 37 chance of winning and still gets 35 to 1.
