A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. Six Number Bet - Covers two rows of three numbers each. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. All even moneyodds. Pays 1:1. Roulette is said by some to have been started or invented way back in 1655 by the French scientist Blaise Pascal, during his monastic retreat, and first played in a makeshift casino in Paris. Still others say it originated in an old Chinese game whose object was to arrange 37 statuettes of animals in a "magic square" of 666 (but they fail to describe the method of play) There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. To keep it simple, we'll call him the "dealer" and his assistant the "croupier". A dealer (known as a croupier) spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. The numbers on the roulette wheel alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The numbers alternate between black and red. Here are thedifferent bets you can make. The house edge is the same whether youmake one bet per spin or several. That way iftwo players bet on the same number (or set of numbers), then the dealer knowswho to pay, and arguments can't arise over who bet what. If you're asked Inside or Outside, always answer "Both",even if you only intend to bet one or the other. That way, you're not locked inand you always have the ability to change your mind. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. Now let's sayyou've been playing Roulette for a few hours, betting on Red every time, andyou've been keeping track of what numbers have hit. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. Thechances of #27 coming up on a given spin are the same, whether it just come upon the last spin or not - 1 in 38. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. On an American wheel,there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. Usually it takes a minimum of $20 to buy-in at the roulette betting table. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. Actually, you can pick up a total of 36 chips which includes your original bet. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. All in all, that edge is comparable to the "rake" in poker, and in some bets on the craps table, in baccarat and other games including sports betting.
