Very little strategy is required as the game is completely random and based entirely on luck. American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. To keep it simple, we'll call him the "dealer" and his assistant the "croupier". For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. When the ball is gettingready to drop, the dealer will wave his hand over the table, which means "Nomore bets". In other games the color of the chipdenotes the denomination, but in Roulette the color denotes only which playerthe chip belongs to. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. When you buy in, tell the dealer what denomination you want. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. For outside bets, any bet you make has to be the table minimum. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. A stack of twenty 25-cent chips is valued at $5.00, and a stack of twenty 50-cent chips is worth $10. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. It is important to note that these roulette chips must be cashed in at the table. The betting layout starts with numbers 0 and 00 at the top, then extends from numbers 1 through 36 at the far end of the table. Actually, you can pick up a total of 36 chips which includes your original bet. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. In many instances, more than one coloured chip is on a winning number. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers.
