Roulette Casino Game Casinos Games Roulette is a popular and classic casino game that is easy to play and has an enthusiastic following in online gaming. Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. By the skillful placing of bets on the table, a player can vary the amount of risk he is taking. Split Bet - The chip is placed on the line separating two adjacent numbers. Pays 17:1. Column Bets - A bet on which of the three columns of numbers the ball may landon. Pays 2:1. Other historians claim however that a French monk invented it in order to help break some of the monotony of daily monastery life. There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. A roulette table with a single layout is usually worked by two "croupiers". A double-end table with two layouts is operated by either three or four croupiers. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. American Roulette is played using a wheel that consists of thirty-eight slots, each with its own number. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) In most games players can continuemaking bets even while the ball is still spinning. When the ball is gettingready to drop, the dealer will wave his hand over the table, which means "Nomore bets". New players often have to betold this repeatedly the first time they play because they kept forgetting andbecause they're excited about collecting their winnings. Each player's chips are a different color. That way iftwo players bet on the same number (or set of numbers), then the dealer knowswho to pay, and arguments can't arise over who bet what. That way, you're not locked inand you always have the ability to change your mind. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. In this way, Roulette is more like slots - one single bet canwin a lot. It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. The Europeanwheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38(no 00) Thelast time we checked, Single 0 Roulette was available at the Stratosphere andthe Monte Carlo on the Vegas Strip. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. They may not be removed from the table when the player leaves. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. Additional combinations in this "inside" betting area are: one chip on a six number bet (pays 5 to 1); one chip on any four connecting numbers (pays 8 to 1); one chip on any connecting group of three numbers (11-1); one chip place between two connecting numbers (17-to-1) The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%. The player has a 1 in 37 chance of winning and still gets 35 to 1.
