Very little strategy is required as the game is completely random and based entirely on luck. Some European casinos have only a “0”. Straight Up Bet - A chip is placed on one of the numbers. The numbers alternate between black and red. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. Roulette is the game where you guess where the little marble is going to dropon the spinning wheel. When the ball falls into a slot, the dealer will announce thenumber and the color, and place a marker on the layout where the winning numberis. That's because if you're betting only inside and someone else isbetting only outside, he can give you both the same color chips and there won'tbe any confusion. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. When you buy in, tell the dealer what denomination you want. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. If you play Roulette, the most important thing is to find a casino thatoffers the European wheel (which is called "Single 0" Roulette) European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. On even money bets when 0 comes up, instead of losing rightaway, your bet is "imprisoned" and rides again for the next spin. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. They may not be removed from the table when the player leaves. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. Red or black pays even odds. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. As mentioned. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%.
