Very little strategy is required as the game is completely random and based entirely on luck. A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. Corner Bet – A bet placed on the crossed lines in the middle of four numbers. Pays 8:1. Five Number Bet - This bet covers only the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Pays 6:1 if any one of the numbers comes up. Other historians claim however that a French monk invented it in order to help break some of the monotony of daily monastery life. There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. The dealer spins the wheel in a counterclockwise direction then flips the ball on the bowl's back track so that it travels clockwise. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! He does this as the ball slows down and is about to drop off the back track. A dealer (known as a croupier) spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. In this way, Roulette is more like slots - one single bet canwin a lot. If Black hascome up for the last 10 spins in a row, the next spin is not more likely to beRed. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. The wheel has no memory. On an American wheel,there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. The chips generally have a set value of 25 or 50 cents. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. Additional combinations in this "inside" betting area are: one chip on a six number bet (pays 5 to 1); one chip on any four connecting numbers (pays 8 to 1); one chip on any connecting group of three numbers (11-1); one chip place between two connecting numbers (17-to-1) The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. As mentioned. In many instances, more than one coloured chip is on a winning number. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. The player has a 1 in 37 chance of winning and still gets 35 to 1.
