Roulette is a popular and classic casino game that is easy to play and has an enthusiastic following in online gaming. Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) You don't have to make just one kind of bet foreach spin, you can make several, and you win if the ball lands on any of yournumbers. Each player's chips are a different color. Sometimes the dealerwill ask you "Inside or Outside? If you're asked Inside or Outside, always answer "Both",even if you only intend to bet one or the other. In other games the color of the chipdenotes the denomination, but in Roulette the color denotes only which playerthe chip belongs to. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. Now let's sayyou've been playing Roulette for a few hours, betting on Red every time, andyou've been keeping track of what numbers have hit. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. The Europeanwheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38(no 00) You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. The betting layout starts with numbers 0 and 00 at the top, then extends from numbers 1 through 36 at the far end of the table. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. The player has a 1 in 37 chance of winning and still gets 35 to 1.
