By the skillful placing of bets on the table, a player can vary the amount of risk he is taking. American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. Dozens Bet - The numbers between 1 and 36 are divided into three dozens. 1-12, 13-24 and25-36. Pays 2:1. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. The numbers alternate between black and red. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. You don't have to make just one kind of bet foreach spin, you can make several, and you win if the ball lands on any of yournumbers. The house edge is the same whether youmake one bet per spin or several. you will likely lose money faster the morebets you make, because you're betting more. When the ball is gettingready to drop, the dealer will wave his hand over the table, which means "Nomore bets". That's because if you're betting only inside and someone else isbetting only outside, he can give you both the same color chips and there won'tbe any confusion. That way, you're not locked inand you always have the ability to change your mind. In other games the color of the chipdenotes the denomination, but in Roulette the color denotes only which playerthe chip belongs to. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! There's an old saying,"The wheel has no memory. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. On an American wheel,there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. A stack of twenty 25-cent chips is valued at $5.00, and a stack of twenty 50-cent chips is worth $10. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. Additional combinations in this "inside" betting area are: one chip on a six number bet (pays 5 to 1); one chip on any four connecting numbers (pays 8 to 1); one chip on any connecting group of three numbers (11-1); one chip place between two connecting numbers (17-to-1) Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers. All in all, that edge is comparable to the "rake" in poker, and in some bets on the craps table, in baccarat and other games including sports betting. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%.
