Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. As the wheel turns, the ball loses momentum. That number is the declared winner for that game. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1. The player has a 1 in 37 chance of winning and still gets 35 to 1.
