Roulette is a popular and classic casino game that is easy to play and has an enthusiastic following in online gaming. Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. That's because if you're betting only inside and someone else isbetting only outside, he can give you both the same color chips and there won'tbe any confusion. In other games the color of the chipdenotes the denomination, but in Roulette the color denotes only which playerthe chip belongs to. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. When you buy in, tell the dealer what denomination you want. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. For outside bets, any bet you make has to be the table minimum. " That means it doesn't know what it spunbefore, and even if it did, the wheel can't select what number comes up out ofits own volition. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. On an American wheel,there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. On even money bets when 0 comes up, instead of losing rightaway, your bet is "imprisoned" and rides again for the next spin. One to six players are seated at the roulette table. Usually it takes a minimum of $20 to buy-in at the roulette betting table. It is important to note that these roulette chips must be cashed in at the table. The betting layout starts with numbers 0 and 00 at the top, then extends from numbers 1 through 36 at the far end of the table. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. That number is the declared winner for that game. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36.
