Game Gambling Roulette
Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. Some European casinos have only a “0”. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. All even moneyodds. Pays 1:1. Column Bets - A bet on which of the three columns of numbers the ball may landon. Pays 2:1. Roulette is said by some to have been started or invented way back in 1655 by the French scientist Blaise Pascal, during his monastic retreat, and first played in a makeshift casino in Paris. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. To keep it simple, we'll call him the "dealer" and his assistant the "croupier". Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! American Roulette is played using a wheel that consists of thirty-eight slots, each with its own number. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. Roulette would be a great game were it not for the highhouse edge - usually 5.26%, sometimes as low as 2.63%, which is still higherthan blackjack, craps, or baccarat. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. Here are thedifferent bets you can make. The house edge is the same whether youmake one bet per spin or several. In most games players can continuemaking bets even while the ball is still spinning. Each player's chips are a different color. That way iftwo players bet on the same number (or set of numbers), then the dealer knowswho to pay, and arguments can't arise over who bet what. Sometimes the dealerwill ask you "Inside or Outside? That's because if you're betting only inside and someone else isbetting only outside, he can give you both the same color chips and there won'tbe any confusion. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. It most other games a bet usually wins only even money, butRoulette gives you the chance to win 35 times your bet (a winning bet placed ona single number) " That means it doesn't know what it spunbefore, and even if it did, the wheel can't select what number comes up out ofits own volition. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. Actually, you can pick up a total of 36 chips which includes your original bet. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Naturally, you can let it ride again on the next roll or even add other chips from your winnings. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. As the wheel turns, the ball loses momentum. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. All in all, that edge is comparable to the "rake" in poker, and in some bets on the craps table, in baccarat and other games including sports betting.
