American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. Five Number Bet - This bet covers only the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Pays 6:1 if any one of the numbers comes up. Six Number Bet - Covers two rows of three numbers each. The chip is placed on the outside line of the two rowscovered. Pays 5:1. 1-12, 13-24 and25-36. Pays 2:1. A double-end table with two layouts is operated by either three or four croupiers. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. ". Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. A dealer (known as a croupier) spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. The numbers on the roulette wheel alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. Roulette would be a great game were it not for the highhouse edge - usually 5.26%, sometimes as low as 2.63%, which is still higherthan blackjack, craps, or baccarat. Making a bet is easy - you just place your chip(s) on the number(s), color, orsets you want to bet on. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. We've added blue circled letters to the diagram to point outhow to make the not-so-obvious bets (the sets of 2-6 numbers) In most games players can continuemaking bets even while the ball is still spinning. Each player's chips are a different color. That way iftwo players bet on the same number (or set of numbers), then the dealer knowswho to pay, and arguments can't arise over who bet what. Sometimes the dealerwill ask you "Inside or Outside? If you're asked Inside or Outside, always answer "Both",even if you only intend to bet one or the other. In other games the color of the chipdenotes the denomination, but in Roulette the color denotes only which playerthe chip belongs to. It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. If Black hascome up for the last 10 spins in a row, the next spin is not more likely to beRed. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. There's an old saying,"The wheel has no memory. Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. Thelast time we checked, Single 0 Roulette was available at the Stratosphere andthe Monte Carlo on the Vegas Strip. Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. Usually it takes a minimum of $20 to buy-in at the roulette betting table. They may not be removed from the table when the player leaves. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. Additional combinations in this "inside" betting area are: one chip on a six number bet (pays 5 to 1); one chip on any four connecting numbers (pays 8 to 1); one chip on any connecting group of three numbers (11-1); one chip place between two connecting numbers (17-to-1) Red or black pays even odds. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. As the wheel turns, the ball loses momentum. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%.
