A roulette table with a single layout is usually worked by two "croupiers". A double-end table with two layouts is operated by either three or four croupiers. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. The dealer spins the wheel in a counterclockwise direction then flips the ball on the bowl's back track so that it travels clockwise. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! Bets placed on the layout after this announcement are not valid and must be returned to the player(s) The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. Roulette is the game where you guess where the little marble is going to dropon the spinning wheel. You should always calculate your expectedloss and how long you can play on a given bankroll before playing any game, butwith roulette it's especially important. Making a bet is easy - you just place your chip(s) on the number(s), color, orsets you want to bet on. We've added blue circled letters to the diagram to point outhow to make the not-so-obvious bets (the sets of 2-6 numbers) In most games players can continuemaking bets even while the ball is still spinning. New players often have to betold this repeatedly the first time they play because they kept forgetting andbecause they're excited about collecting their winnings. If you're asked Inside or Outside, always answer "Both",even if you only intend to bet one or the other. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. When you buy in, tell the dealer what denomination you want. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. For outside bets, any bet you make has to be the table minimum. In this way, Roulette is more like slots - one single bet canwin a lot. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. A stack of twenty 25-cent chips is valued at $5.00, and a stack of twenty 50-cent chips is worth $10. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. Actually, you can pick up a total of 36 chips which includes your original bet. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. All inside bets are paid by the dealer, directly to you. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1.
