Roulette is a popular and classic casino game that is easy to play and has an enthusiastic following in online gaming. Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. Very little strategy is required as the game is completely random and based entirely on luck. Some European casinos have only a “0”. 1-12, 13-24 and25-36. Pays 2:1. Roulette is said by some to have been started or invented way back in 1655 by the French scientist Blaise Pascal, during his monastic retreat, and first played in a makeshift casino in Paris. Still others say it originated in an old Chinese game whose object was to arrange 37 statuettes of animals in a "magic square" of 666 (but they fail to describe the method of play) There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. A double-end table with two layouts is operated by either three or four croupiers. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. The numbers alternate between black and red. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. When the ball falls into a slot, the dealer will announce thenumber and the color, and place a marker on the layout where the winning numberis. There's no advantage tolimiting yourself to inside or outside. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. For outside bets, any bet you make has to be the table minimum. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. In this way, Roulette is more like slots - one single bet canwin a lot. It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. " That means it doesn't know what it spunbefore, and even if it did, the wheel can't select what number comes up out ofits own volition. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. The wheel has no memory. Thechances of #27 coming up on a given spin are the same, whether it just come upon the last spin or not - 1 in 38. On an American wheel,there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. On even money bets when 0 comes up, instead of losing rightaway, your bet is "imprisoned" and rides again for the next spin. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. One to six players are seated at the roulette table. Usually it takes a minimum of $20 to buy-in at the roulette betting table. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. Additional combinations in this "inside" betting area are: one chip on a six number bet (pays 5 to 1); one chip on any four connecting numbers (pays 8 to 1); one chip on any connecting group of three numbers (11-1); one chip place between two connecting numbers (17-to-1) A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. You will get 2-to-1 odds if you select the winning number within the first, second or third dozen numbers. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel.
