Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. Split Bet - The chip is placed on the line separating two adjacent numbers. Pays 17:1. ". American Roulette is played using a wheel that consists of thirty-eight slots, each with its own number. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. Roulette would be a great game were it not for the highhouse edge - usually 5.26%, sometimes as low as 2.63%, which is still higherthan blackjack, craps, or baccarat. The house edge is the same whether youmake one bet per spin or several. Each player's chips are a different color. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. They may not be removed from the table when the player leaves. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. Additional combinations in this "inside" betting area are: one chip on a six number bet (pays 5 to 1); one chip on any four connecting numbers (pays 8 to 1); one chip on any connecting group of three numbers (11-1); one chip place between two connecting numbers (17-to-1) A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. You will get 2-to-1 odds if you select the winning number within the first, second or third dozen numbers. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1.
