European Roulette Gambling
Very little strategy is required as the game is completely random and based entirely on luck. By the skillful placing of bets on the table, a player can vary the amount of risk he is taking. Some European casinos have only a “0”. Split Bet - The chip is placed on the line separating two adjacent numbers. Pays 17:1. Column Bets - A bet on which of the three columns of numbers the ball may landon. Pays 2:1. Roulette is said by some to have been started or invented way back in 1655 by the French scientist Blaise Pascal, during his monastic retreat, and first played in a makeshift casino in Paris. Still others say it originated in an old Chinese game whose object was to arrange 37 statuettes of animals in a "magic square" of 666 (but they fail to describe the method of play) There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. To keep it simple, we'll call him the "dealer" and his assistant the "croupier". He does this as the ball slows down and is about to drop off the back track. American Roulette is played using a wheel that consists of thirty-eight slots, each with its own number. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. When the ball is gettingready to drop, the dealer will wave his hand over the table, which means "Nomore bets". Don't reach for your winnings until the dealerremoves the marker, or the dealer will scold you. New players often have to betold this repeatedly the first time they play because they kept forgetting andbecause they're excited about collecting their winnings. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. The wheel has no memory. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. Red or black pays even odds. The same 2 to 1 odds are given for selecting any of the numbers in the three vertical columns of 12 numbers, located on one end of the betting surface For outside bets, the dealer will lay your winning chips alongside your original bet. As mentioned. Naturally, you can let it ride again on the next roll or even add other chips from your winnings. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. As the wheel turns, the ball loses momentum. That number is the declared winner for that game. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1.
