Corner Bet – A bet placed on the crossed lines in the middle of four numbers. Pays 8:1. One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. He does this as the ball slows down and is about to drop off the back track. The numbers alternate between black and red. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) The numbers alternate between black and red. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. Roulette would be a great game were it not for the highhouse edge - usually 5.26%, sometimes as low as 2.63%, which is still higherthan blackjack, craps, or baccarat. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. We've added blue circled letters to the diagram to point outhow to make the not-so-obvious bets (the sets of 2-6 numbers) The house edge is the same whether youmake one bet per spin or several. When the ball falls into a slot, the dealer will announce thenumber and the color, and place a marker on the layout where the winning numberis. Don't reach for your winnings until the dealerremoves the marker, or the dealer will scold you. If you're asked Inside or Outside, always answer "Both",even if you only intend to bet one or the other. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. For outside bets, any bet you make has to be the table minimum. There's an old saying,"The wheel has no memory. The wheel has no memory. On an American wheel, there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. Casino roulette uses the same basic rules and procedures in all casinos throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in the Caribbean and other island gaming resorts on the North American continent. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. It is important to note that these roulette chips must be cashed in at the table. They may not be removed from the table when the player leaves. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. Actually, you can pick up a total of 36 chips which includes your original bet. In many instances, more than one coloured chip is on a winning number. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. That number is the declared winner for that game. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%.
