A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. Some European casinos have only a “0”. Street Bet - A bet that covers a row of three numbers on the table. Pays 11:1. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. All even moneyodds. Pays 1:1. A roulette table with a single layout is usually worked by two "croupiers". The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. To keep it simple, we'll call him the "dealer" and his assistant the "croupier". The dealer spins the wheel in a counterclockwise direction then flips the ball on the bowl's back track so that it travels clockwise. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. The numbers on the roulette wheel alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The numbers alternate between black and red. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. You should always calculate your expectedloss and how long you can play on a given bankroll before playing any game, butwith roulette it's especially important. Making a bet is easy - you just place your chip(s) on the number(s), color, orsets you want to bet on. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. The wheel has no memory. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) The Europeanwheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38(no 00) On even money bets when 0 comes up, instead of losing rightaway, your bet is "imprisoned" and rides again for the next spin. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. The chips generally have a set value of 25 or 50 cents. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. They may not be removed from the table when the player leaves. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. All inside bets are paid by the dealer, directly to you. Naturally, you can let it ride again on the next roll or even add other chips from your winnings. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. As the wheel turns, the ball loses momentum. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots.
