Casino Roulette Games
Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. By the skillful placing of bets on the table, a player can vary the amount of risk he is taking. This gives the players slightly better odds. The chip is placed on the outside line of the two rowscovered. Pays 5:1. There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. To keep it simple, we'll call him the "dealer" and his assistant the "croupier". The dealer spins the wheel in a counterclockwise direction then flips the ball on the bowl's back track so that it travels clockwise. American Roulette is played using a wheel that consists of thirty-eight slots, each with its own number. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) Roulette would be a great game were it not for the highhouse edge - usually 5.26%, sometimes as low as 2.63%, which is still higherthan blackjack, craps, or baccarat. Making a bet is easy - you just place your chip(s) on the number(s), color, orsets you want to bet on. We've added blue circled letters to the diagram to point outhow to make the not-so-obvious bets (the sets of 2-6 numbers) When the ball is gettingready to drop, the dealer will wave his hand over the table, which means "Nomore bets". When the ball falls into a slot, the dealer will announce thenumber and the color, and place a marker on the layout where the winning numberis. If you're asked Inside or Outside, always answer "Both",even if you only intend to bet one or the other. That way, you're not locked inand you always have the ability to change your mind. In other games the color of the chipdenotes the denomination, but in Roulette the color denotes only which playerthe chip belongs to. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. For outside bets, any bet you make has to be the table minimum. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. If Black hascome up for the last 10 spins in a row, the next spin is not more likely to beRed. Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. Now let's sayyou've been playing Roulette for a few hours, betting on Red every time, andyou've been keeping track of what numbers have hit. Thechances of #27 coming up on a given spin are the same, whether it just come upon the last spin or not - 1 in 38. The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. One to six players are seated at the roulette table. A stack of twenty 25-cent chips is valued at $5.00, and a stack of twenty 50-cent chips is worth $10. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. You will get 2-to-1 odds if you select the winning number within the first, second or third dozen numbers. The same 2 to 1 odds are given for selecting any of the numbers in the three vertical columns of 12 numbers, located on one end of the betting surface For outside bets, the dealer will lay your winning chips alongside your original bet. In many instances, more than one coloured chip is on a winning number. The perfectly balanced roulette wheel consists of 38 identical slots, individually numbered from 0, 00, 1 through 36. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1.
