A double-end table with two layouts is operated by either three or four croupiers. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. The French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, and only the single zero, unlike the American roulette wheel which has the numbers 1 to 36 but with two zeros (0 and 00) The numbers alternate between black and red. Here are thedifferent bets you can make. The house edge is the same whether youmake one bet per spin or several. When the ball is gettingready to drop, the dealer will wave his hand over the table, which means "Nomore bets". Don't reach for your winnings until the dealerremoves the marker, or the dealer will scold you. There's no advantage tolimiting yourself to inside or outside. For outside bets, any bet you make has to be the table minimum. Inside bets canusually be as small a you like, as long as the total of all your inside bets isthe table minimum. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. The wheel has no memory. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. One to six players are seated at the roulette table. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. The betting layout starts with numbers 0 and 00 at the top, then extends from numbers 1 through 36 at the far end of the table. The same 2 to 1 odds are given for selecting any of the numbers in the three vertical columns of 12 numbers, located on one end of the betting surface For outside bets, the dealer will lay your winning chips alongside your original bet. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. In many instances, more than one coloured chip is on a winning number. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots. That number is the declared winner for that game. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36.
