A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. By the skillful placing of bets on the table, a player can vary the amount of risk he is taking. Five Number Bet - This bet covers only the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Pays 6:1 if any one of the numbers comes up. All even moneyodds. Pays 1:1. 1-12, 13-24 and25-36. Pays 2:1. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! ". American Roulette is played using a wheel that consists of thirty-eight slots, each with its own number. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. The numbers alternate between black and red. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. Making a bet is easy - you just place your chip(s) on the number(s), color, orsets you want to bet on. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. The wheel has no memory. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) The differencebetween the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. The Europeanwheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38(no 00) European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. On even money bets when 0 comes up, instead of losing rightaway, your bet is "imprisoned" and rides again for the next spin. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. Casino roulette uses the same basic rules and procedures in all casinos throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in the Caribbean and other island gaming resorts on the North American continent. The chips generally have a set value of 25 or 50 cents. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1.
