American Roulette Gambling for Real Roulette is a popular and classic casino game that is easy to play and has an enthusiastic following in online gaming. Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. Some European casinos have only a “0”. Street Bet - A bet that covers a row of three numbers on the table. Pays 11:1. Five Number Bet - This bet covers only the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Pays 6:1 if any one of the numbers comes up. There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. A roulette table with a single layout is usually worked by two "croupiers". A double-end table with two layouts is operated by either three or four croupiers. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! ". He does this as the ball slows down and is about to drop off the back track. The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. The numbers alternate between black and red. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. You don't have to make just one kind of bet foreach spin, you can make several, and you win if the ball lands on any of yournumbers. When the ball is gettingready to drop, the dealer will wave his hand over the table, which means "Nomore bets". New players often have to betold this repeatedly the first time they play because they kept forgetting andbecause they're excited about collecting their winnings. That way iftwo players bet on the same number (or set of numbers), then the dealer knowswho to pay, and arguments can't arise over who bet what. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. Roulette games have minimum bets, which will be posted on aplacard at the table. Minimum bets work differently for inside and outside bets. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. If Black hascome up for the last 10 spins in a row, the next spin is not more likely to beRed. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. Now let's sayyou've been playing Roulette for a few hours, betting on Red every time, andyou've been keeping track of what numbers have hit. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. On an American wheel, there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. if you win, thecasino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. Thelast time we checked, Single 0 Roulette was available at the Stratosphere andthe Monte Carlo on the Vegas Strip. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. A stack of twenty 25-cent chips is valued at $5.00, and a stack of twenty 50-cent chips is worth $10. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. Actually, you can pick up a total of 36 chips which includes your original bet. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Each game begins when the dealer (sometimes called croupier) spins the wheel in one direction, and then rolls a little ivory ball along the inner edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers.
