Roulette is a popular and classic casino game that is easy to play and has an enthusiastic following in online gaming. American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. Some European casinos have only a “0”. Street Bet - A bet that covers a row of three numbers on the table. Pays 11:1. Five Number Bet - This bet covers only the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Pays 6:1 if any one of the numbers comes up. There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. The croupier who spins the wheel and deals the game is called the "wheel roller" by casino employees. He does this as the ball slows down and is about to drop off the back track. Bets placed on the layout after this announcement are not valid and must be returned to the player(s) American Roulette is played using a wheel that consists of thirty-eight slots, each with its own number. The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The numbers alternate between black and red. When the ball falls into a slot, the dealer will announce thenumber and the color, and place a marker on the layout where the winning numberis. That way, you're not locked inand you always have the ability to change your mind. There's no advantage tolimiting yourself to inside or outside. Roulette chips can in fact be any denomination - $1, $5,$25, etc. Remember thatyou can bet inside or outside if you like; there's no requirement to bet both ona given spin. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! " That means it doesn't know what it spunbefore, and even if it did, the wheel can't select what number comes up out ofits own volition. Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. The wheel has no memory. It's more important to know what the house edge is, than how to calculateit, but here's a quick analysis in case you're interested. The Europeanwheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38(no 00) Thelast time we checked, Single 0 Roulette was available at the Stratosphere andthe Monte Carlo on the Vegas Strip. Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. On even money bets when 0 comes up, instead of losing rightaway, your bet is "imprisoned" and rides again for the next spin. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. One to six players are seated at the roulette table. The dealer will specify the worth of that particular coloured chip by mating a sample chip which is placed upon the rim of the wheel. If that number wins you'll receive 35 to 1 for every chip you have bet. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. All inside bets are paid by the dealer, directly to you. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Naturally, you can let it ride again on the next roll or even add other chips from your winnings. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. The single-0 European roulette wheel has a house edge of only 2.70%.
