American roulette wheels usually have both the “0” and “00” on the wheel. Some European casinos have only a “0”. Corner Bet – A bet placed on the crossed lines in the middle of four numbers. Pays 8:1. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. Column Bets - A bet on which of the three columns of numbers the ball may landon. Pays 2:1. Still others say it originated in an old Chinese game whose object was to arrange 37 statuettes of animals in a "magic square" of 666 (but they fail to describe the method of play) There are two standard styles of roulette tables found in American casinos. A double-end table with two layouts is operated by either three or four croupiers. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. A dealer (known as a croupier) spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. All the bets on the layout carry the same house edge, with the exceptionof 5-number Line Bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), which carries a whopping 7.29% edge! Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. Thechances of #27 coming up on a given spin are the same, whether it just come upon the last spin or not - 1 in 38. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. A stack of twenty 25-cent chips is valued at $5.00, and a stack of twenty 50-cent chips is worth $10. In roulette betting, a player may request whatever value he wishes for his chips, above the 25 cent or 50 cent standard amount. It is important to note that these roulette chips must be cashed in at the table. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. All inside bets are paid by the dealer, directly to you. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots. That number is the declared winner for that game. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers. The house edge is set at 5.26%, resulting from the player receiving odds of 35 to 1 rather than the true odds of 1 in 36 or 37 to 1.
