American Roulette $10 Free A clever player is one who understands the betting possibilities. Straight Up Bet - A chip is placed on one of the numbers. Pays 35:1. A bet placed on the ball landing on red or black, high or low numbers, odds or even numbers. Dozens Bet - The numbers between 1 and 36 are divided into three dozens. 1-12, 13-24 and25-36. Pays 2:1. One is the standard table, which has one betting layout with the roulette wheel at one end; the other, called the double-end table, has two layouts with the wheel in the center between them. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! ". The numbers on the American roulette wheel are 1 to 36, 0, and 00. The numbers alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The numbers alternate between black and red. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. Roulette is the game where you guess where the little marble is going to dropon the spinning wheel. Roulette would be a great game were it not for the highhouse edge - usually 5.26%, sometimes as low as 2.63%, which is still higherthan blackjack, craps, or baccarat. When the ball falls into a slot, the dealer will announce thenumber and the color, and place a marker on the layout where the winning numberis. Don't reach for your winnings until the dealerremoves the marker, or the dealer will scold you. New players often have to betold this repeatedly the first time they play because they kept forgetting andbecause they're excited about collecting their winnings. That way iftwo players bet on the same number (or set of numbers), then the dealer knowswho to pay, and arguments can't arise over who bet what. Sometimes the dealerwill ask you "Inside or Outside? It's important tounderstand that the outcome of the roulette wheel is truly random. There's an old saying,"The wheel has no memory. Here's another example: Since there are 38 slots on the wheel,we expect any given number to hit 1 out of 38 spins on average. There have been 152 spins (coincidentally,4 x 38), and so we expect that each number should have come up 4 times onaverage. You can certainly switch toanother number if you want, but that won't improve or worsen your chances. Thechances of #27 coming up on a given spin are the same, whether it just come upon the last spin or not - 1 in 38. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) Atlantic City has a special rule whichreduces the house edge to 2.7% on even money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even,1-18/19-36): If 0 or 00 comes up on on even money bet, you lose only half yourbet. European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. Players purchase special roulette chips, each player with his own color, so that the dealer can tell who made a winning bet and pay off that player. The chips generally have a set value of 25 or 50 cents. It is important to note that these roulette chips must be cashed in at the table. This area is referred to as the "inside" betting area. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. The perfectly balanced roulette wheel consists of 38 identical slots, individually numbered from 0, 00, 1 through 36. That number is the declared winner for that game. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number.
