Street Bet - A bet that covers a row of three numbers on the table. Pays 11:1. Corner Bet – A bet placed on the crossed lines in the middle of four numbers. Pays 8:1. Six Number Bet - Covers two rows of three numbers each. The chip is placed on the outside line of the two rowscovered. Pays 5:1. Column Bets - A bet on which of the three columns of numbers the ball may landon. Pays 2:1. Roulette is said by some to have been started or invented way back in 1655 by the French scientist Blaise Pascal, during his monastic retreat, and first played in a makeshift casino in Paris. A roulette table with a single layout is usually worked by two "croupiers". The players begin by making their bets, placing chips on the spaces of the layout in the manner permitted by the applicable rules for the area/state/country etc. The dealer spins the wheel in a counterclockwise direction then flips the ball on the bowl's back track so that it travels clockwise. Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! He does this as the ball slows down and is about to drop off the back track. That aside, French roulette is very similar to American roulette. Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. Roulette is the game where you guess where the little marble is going to dropon the spinning wheel. For most bets it's fairly obvious - you can't miss theRed diamond for Red bets, and things like Even, 1-18, and 1st 12 are written outin plain English. You don't have to make just one kind of bet foreach spin, you can make several, and you win if the ball lands on any of yournumbers. In most games players can continuemaking bets even while the ball is still spinning. Don't reach for your winnings until the dealerremoves the marker, or the dealer will scold you. Sometimes the dealerwill ask you "Inside or Outside? There's no advantage tolimiting yourself to inside or outside. Inside bets canusually be as small a you like, as long as the total of all your inside bets isthe table minimum. Here's ahandy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. If Black hascome up for the last 10 spins in a row, the next spin is not more likely to beRed. Now let's sayyou've been playing Roulette for a few hours, betting on Red every time, andyou've been keeping track of what numbers have hit. Your odds of winning aone-number bet are 37 to 1 (37 ways to lose, 1 way to win) The Europeanwheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38(no 00) European games have an option called en prison which reduces the house edgeto 1.35%, but it's generally not available in the U.S., even in casinos that usethe European wheel. Ifyou win the second spin, your bet is "released from prison" and youget it back. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losingit outright. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. Actually, you can pick up a total of 36 chips which includes your original bet. A bet on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36, pays even money. The same 2 to 1 odds are given for selecting any of the numbers in the three vertical columns of 12 numbers, located on one end of the betting surface For outside bets, the dealer will lay your winning chips alongside your original bet. It is up to you to pick up both your winnings and your original bet after the payoff. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. In total, 38 numbers are represented on the betting layout. You will notice on our illustration of the standard roulette wheel that the numbers are not consecutively arranged around the wheel. By design, they alternate between red and black and exactly opposite each other number is the corresponding higher and lower number. Run a ruler or any straight edge across the diagram and you will see that the O is opposite the 00, 1 is opposite the 2, and so on up to the 35 being directly opposite the 36. All red numbers are opposite the black numbers.
