Rules and Review
Players bet on numbers, spreads of number combinations and colors, generated by the fall of a small ivory ball onto a spinning wheel which is divided into 37 or 38 numbered slots, depending on the version being played. The chip is placed on the outside line of the two rows
covered. Pays 5:1. All even money
odds. Pays 1:1. Dozens Bet - The numbers between 1 and 36 are divided into three dozens. Column Bets - A bet on which of the three columns of numbers the ball may land
on. Pays 2:1. To keep it simple, we'll call him the "dealer" and his assistant the "croupier". Players may continue placing bets while wheel and ball are still in motion until the dealer yells (says) "No More Bets! ". Both the 0 and 00 slots are green in color. The ball then drops into one of the slots as it begins to slow down. The numbers on the roulette wheel alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers. The numbers alternate between black and red. A dealer, or croupier spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball in the other direction. Roulette would be a great game were it not for the high
house edge - usually 5.26%, sometimes as low as 2.63%, which is still higher
than blackjack, craps, or baccarat. We've added blue circled letters to the diagram to point out
how to make the not-so-obvious bets (the sets of 2-6 numbers) Here are the
different bets you can make. You don't have to make just one kind of bet for
each spin, you can make several, and you win if the ball lands on any of your
numbers. Sometimes the dealer
will ask you "Inside or Outside? " when you're buying chips, to find
out whether you're making inside bets (the ones listed in purple in the table,
on specific numbers) or outside bets (the ones listed in yellow, on kinds of
numbers) In other games the color of the chip
denotes the denomination, but in Roulette the color denotes only which player
the chip belongs to. It most other games a bet usually wins only even money, but
Roulette gives you the chance to win 35 times your bet (a winning bet placed on
a single number) Here's a
handy way to remember the payouts when you're betting on a set of numbers: Take
36 divided by the quantity of numbers you're betting on, and subtract 1. If Black has
come up for the last 10 spins in a row, the next spin is not more likely to be
Red. Black and Red still have equal chances of hitting. " That means it doesn't know what it spun
before, and even if it did, the wheel can't select what number comes up out of
its own volition. The wheel has no memory. On an American wheel,
there are 38 spots - numbers 1-36, plus 0 and 00. if you win, the
casino doesn't pay you 37 to 1, they pay you less - 35 to 1. The
last time we checked, Single 0 Roulette was available at the Stratosphere and
the Monte Carlo on the Vegas Strip. In effect, this variation has the ability to turn a loss into a tie. A stack of twenty 25-cent chips is valued at $5.00, and a stack of twenty 50-cent chips is worth $10. Players may bet larger amounts by using $1, $5 and $25 regular. Inside bets consist of the following: single-number bets, including the 0, 00 and 1 through 36, are made by placing your chip in the centre of the number you select. The "outside" betting area consists of odd or even bets which pay even money. Red or black pays even odds. As mentioned. The dealer knows you are the winner by the color of your chips. Again, your original bet is left on the number or combination of numbers and it is up to you to reclaim that bet. Naturally, you can let it ride again on the next roll or even add other chips from your winnings. It bounces among the slots and finally falls into one of the numbered slots. Incidentally, there are about 90 spins or games played per hour, on average. All in all, that edge is comparable to the "rake" in poker, and in some bets on the craps table, in baccarat and other games including sports betting.
